Description

If you want a solid, secure box without paying for a brand new one, a used shipping container is the way to go. These are B grade units that have done time at sea. They’re wind and water tight with working doors, but they’ll show dents, scratches and some surface rust.

Choose 20ft or 40ft above. Both sizes are priced to move, and they’re ideal for farms, building sites, yards and long-term storage where looks don’t matter much.

What people use a used shipping container for

  • Farm and rural storage
  • Building site lock-ups
  • Yard and depot storage
  • Hay, feed and fertiliser storage
  • A budget base for a shed or carport

Build and condition

Used containers are still built from tough Corten steel with hardwood or ply floors. B grade means they are structurally sound and lockable, with cosmetic wear. If you want to see photos of the actual unit before it ships, just ask.

We can also help with extras like shelving, whirlybirds, extra doors, roller doors, windows and painting. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll price it up.

Getting your used shipping container on site

Most containers are delivered on a tilt tray or a side loader. For a tilt tray, plan on firm, level ground with a clear straight run and no low power lines or branches. Larger units may need a side loader, which needs room alongside the truck to set the container down.

Put it on level blocks or sleepers at each corner so the doors open and shut properly and the floor stays off the dirt.

Choosing between sizes

A 10ft is great for tight spaces, a 20ft is the most popular all-rounder, and a 40ft gives you double the floor space for not much more money. High cube containers add an extra 30cm of height, and side opening containers give you full-length access. If you’re weighing up a used shipping container against another size, think about what you’ll store, how you’ll load it, and how much room the truck has to get in.

Still unsure? Tell us what you’re storing and where it’s going, and we’ll suggest the right container. Browse all shipping containers for sale.

Delivery Australia-wide or pick up from a depot

We sell and deliver used shipping container orders right across Australia. If you’re close to one of our yards you can also pick up and save on freight:

Freight depends on distance and site access, so we quote it separately once we know your postcode. Regional and remote deliveries are no problem – they just take a little longer to book in.

How ordering works

  1. Add the item to your cart and check out, or request a quote if you want freight priced first.
  2. We email a tax invoice and a delivery quote, usually within one business day.
  3. Pay by bank transfer. Once it clears, we lock in your delivery date.
  4. We deliver to site, or you collect from the depot.

Prefer to talk it through? Email sales@mrfequipments.com.au and one of the team will get back to you.

Questions we get asked

Is the used shipping container wind and water tight?

Yes. Every unit we sell is wind and water tight with working doors. Used units will show their age on the outside, but they keep the weather out.

Do I need council approval for a shipping container?

It depends on your council and how long it stays. Temporary storage on rural land often needs nothing, but in town and for permanent use it’s worth a quick call to your local council first.

Can you deliver to regional areas?

Yes, we deliver Australia-wide. Send us your postcode and a few details about site access and we’ll quote the freight.

Can I see the container before I buy?

Of course. You’re welcome to inspect stock at our depots by appointment, or we can send photos.
